What is Data Backup?
Data backup is one of the most important areas of IT and yet is also one of the most ignored! Your data needs to be safe as it is essential to the smooth running of any business, and backing up your data is essential to any business continuity plan. A Data backup can be defined as copying your most important files; Storing a second copy safely away from any disaster.
Why should I Backup?
Data loss can occur in many ways but the most common causes are physical hardware failures, accidental error, theft, or disasters like an earthquake, fire, flood or liquid spills (coffee). Recently nasty malware have been getting through an encrypting important data, asking for a ransom to be paid before un-encrypting the data. A growing number of computer viruses are also putting data at risk in businesses.
Data restoration can be a costly task if you haven’t taken any prevented steps in ensuring your data is backed up. It is so important that you act now and make sure you are backing up.
What data should I backup?
Think about what data you would need to continue running your business if a disaster struck. You should also think about what you would need to continue working if your PC were to be stolen/damaged. These are the key pieces of data you should be backing up.
How should I be backing up?
There were many ways in which people have been backing up their data. With each method there are pro’s and con’s (ie. USB drives are usually small and portable, however they can be damaged, lost or stolen easily due to their physical size). We believe in using the pro’s of each method to combine and create a fantastic backup solution.
We use the 3, 2, 1 approach to backup. 3 copies of your important data, stored on 2 different types of media (NAS and USB drive) with 1 offsite copy over the Internet. This method is also automated and alerts us if there are any issues backing up.
